The two-day Thang-ta championship organized by District Thang-Ta Association Baramulla kick-started at Sanctorum Institute of Education on Monday. The event is being held under the aegis of J&K State Sports Council. On this occasion Waheed Rehman Para, Secretary J&K State Sports Council was the chief guest.
A grand participation of more than 400 players from various schools, clubs and academies participated in this inaugural ceremony. The teams from across the district were seen competing against each other.
Addressing a mammoth gathering of athletes and students Waheed ur Rehman said that his aim is to develop sports from the grass root level. He was delighted to see the participation of young students especially the girls in the championship.
“There is a lot of talent among the students both boys and girls. Our aim is to uplift the sports infrastructure from rural as well as urban areas. Earlier we had only one indoor stadium in Srinagar but now we are developing 22 other stadia in other districts as well,” Waheed said
Praising the Sanctorum Institute of Education for offering the land for development of sports infrastructure, Para delightedly agreed to invest in the basic development of the sports ground. The land offered by the school would be utilised by sports academies of the area.
District Secretary Thang-Ta association, Bilkees Nabi said that in future we will organize self defence coaching camps for girls.
Besides Ayjaz ahmed Bhat Assistant secretary Thang-ta Federation of India, Secretary J&K Thang-Ta association, In-charge district sports council Baramulla Mushtaq ahmed, Patron Sanctorum Institutes Mohd Ashraf war, Administrative officer Sanctorum Institutes Haji Mohd Ramzan Dar, Chairman Sanctorum Shakir Ashraf, General manager Kashmir Apex cooperative, Tahir Maqsood wani, SHO Tarzoo and other guests were also present.
