Excelsior Photojournalist Abid Nabi Thursday was allegedly manhandled by traffic cops in Chahla Boniyar of Baramulla district. He alleged that traffic police personnel started beating him without any fault.

While talking to The Varmul Post, Abid Nabi said that few friends accompanying Abid were heading towards Baramulla from Uri, when 3-4 traffic police cops stopped their car near Chahlla Boniyar

“We were stopped by the traffic cops and asked to produce vehicle documents. We showed them all the relevant documents,” Abid said.

Abid said that traffic police told them why haven’t you installed a hi-security number plate on your vehicle. And as a matter of fact, there (traffic cops) own vehicle (Maruti 800) was not having a hi-security registration plate.

“I told them that despite having all documents you should allow us to leave, and I asked them your own vehicle is not having the hi-security number plate. This infuriated them and they dragged me out of vehicle, abused and beat me ruthlessly,” Abid said.

Meanwhile condemning the attack on Abid Nabi, various Baramulla journalists’ bodies appealed the district administration to take stern action against the erring traffic cops, so that such heinous acts will not happen again with the journalists.

Abid Nabi is working with daily Excelsior as a photojournalist and news gathering agency ANI.

Pertinently, this is the second incident of assault on journalists. Few days back Mohammad Younis reporter of Gulistan TV from Sopore was also beaten by employees of MC Sopore, when he was carrying out his professional duties.
