Senior Peoples Democratic Party member and ex minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Basharat Bukhari Friday resigned from the cabinet following ‘broken promises’ made by CM Mehbooba Mufti.

Sources close to Basharat Bukhari told The Varmul Post that he was promised education portfolio in a meeting held yesterday before cabinet reshuffle. But today in cabinet reshuffle Basharat Bukhari was shifted by Chief Minister from the ‘powerful’ Revenue Ministry to smaller horticulture ministry. Sources said that Basharat Bukhari felt ‘insulted’ by the decision made by Chief Mnisiter Mufti as after having three portfolios earlier, now he was given only one and that too a sub department.

Earlier in the cabinet reshuffle five ministers were assigned with new departments. The cabinet reshuffle saw the re-induction of Altaf Bukhari in cabinet who was R&B minister earlier.

Talking to reporters in Jammu after the cabinet reshuffle was ordered, Bukhari the second time representative of the north Kashmir’s Sangrama constituency said that he sent his resignation to the Chief Minister and said that she knows the reasons well.

In Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led PDP-BJP coalition, Bukahri was law minister. When the daughter Mehbooba Mufti took over as Chief Minister early last year, he was given Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation. Now in the mini cabinet reshuffle, Bukhari was given Horticulture Ministry, which is comparatively a smaller ministry.
