Militant, local associate killed in Sopore road accident

Two persons died in a road accident after the bike they were riding skidded off road in Warpora, 5 kms in Sopore outskirts on Bandipora road Monday morning. Police said they were militants.


According to police, an unidentified person was killed on the spot and his associate was injured when their bike bearing number JK05 F0794, skidded off the road following snowfall Monday morning.


One among them was identified as Owais Bashir Mir son of Bashir Ahmad Mir, a resident of Brath Kalan Sopore. Owais was taken to Sub district hospital Sopore for immediate treatment where from he was referred to SKIMS Srinagar.  Police said Owais Bashir succumbed to his injuries in hospital and was an active militant.


SSP Sopore Harmeet Singh Mehta while talking to The Varmul Post said the identity of another person is being ascertained.


“One person has been identified as Owais Bashir a local militant from Brath Kalan while as another is still unidentified. Both died in the accident and we are investigating the matter,” Harmeet said.


Local news gathering agency GNS quoting official sources said that another person is also believed to be a militant and is reportedly a foreigner
