AMK celebrates World Mother Tongue day

Participants pledge support to efforts for safeguarding the language

Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK) Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday held a literary function to celebrate World Mother Tongue Day, wherein participants pledged to work for safeguarding and protecting the Kashmiri language that was under threat.

 

Scholars, writers, academicians, journalists and students from various parts of Kashmir took oath that they would support each and every effort of AMK in this direction. The function was presided over by Dr Sidiq Wahid, former vice chancellor Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora while as head of Media Research Centre Kashmir University Faruq Masudi and President AMK Syed Shujaat Bukhari were in the presidium.

 

Stating that the language was directly linked to the identity, Dr Wahid in his scholarly presentation said that he knew how it effects when you get entangled with many languages as “I have lived most of my life in sort of an exile”.

 

“Given circumstances in Kashmir where the political situation is fluid with many impacts it is important that the cultural identity is preserved”, Dr. Wahid said.

 

Speaking on this occasion Faruq Masudi told the gathering that the situation vis a vis language is same as it was in the past. Kashmiri will nor die as a language but challenges for survival are manifold.

 

AMK president Syed Shujaat Bukhari said that AMK was only striving for reclaiming the rightful place to the language.

 

“ It was not being done at the cost of any other language as the fundamental space belongs to Kashmiri and AMK will continue to strive for protecting the language ,” Shujaat Bukhari said.

 

Renowned columnist Zahid G Muhammad, Riyaz Masroor, Gowhar Geelani, Hena Khan, Dr Altaf Hussain Pandit, Shakeel Qalandar, Hilal Akhtar, Aamir Suhail and many others spoke on the occasion.

 

Participants lauded the role of AMK in preserving the language and culture.
